Generally no. Wallrock's engineered wallcoverings are heavier and more specialised than standard wallpaper, and the manufacturer-recommended adhesives are formulated to give the right open time, grab, and long-term hold. Using a lighter general-purpose paste risks poor adhesion, bubbling, seam lifting, and shorter service life. The recommended adhesives are the ones the products were tested with.

For Wallrock Fibreliner Original and Smooth: 1kg of Wallrock Power Adhesive per 5.5 m² of wall (approximately 1kg per single 55cm x 10m roll, 2kg per 55cm x 20m roll, 3kg per 75cm x 20m roll, 4kg per 100cm x 20m roll). Round up when calculating — better to have a bit spare than run out mid-wall.

Yes. Walls should be clean, sound, and free from dust, loose paint, wallpaper residue, and grease. Fill any deep cracks or holes with a suitable filler and allow to dry. On very dusty, chalky, or highly absorbent surfaces (like unpainted plaster or lime plaster), apply Wallrock Multipurpose Sealer & Primer first to stabilise the surface and improve adhesion. On glossy painted surfaces, sand lightly to give the paste something to key into.

Sometimes. On new plaster, freshly-filled areas, or very absorbent walls, a primer (Wallrock Multipurpose Sealer & Primer, or a diluted wallpaper paste "size coat") helps even out porosity so the paste doesn't dry too quickly and lose grab. On sound, previously-painted walls in good condition, primer is usually not needed. On glossy or high-sheen paint, sanding is more important than primer.

Condensation forms when warm, humid air (from cooking, showering, drying clothes, breathing) meets a cold surface - usually the internal face of a poorly-insulated external wall. Cold spots on walls, especially in corners, behind furniture, and on north-facing external walls, are the most common places. Symptoms are droplets on the wall, black mould in corners, damp-feeling wallpaper, and musty smells. Fixes involve reducing humidity (ventilation, extractor fans), improving heating patterns, and raising wall surface temperatures with insulation like Wallrock Thermal Liner.

Wallrock Dampstop Thermic. This is the specialist product for internal walls suffering from penetrating damp coming through from outside. Important: Dampstop Thermic manages the visible symptoms so you can decorate the wall, but it does not fix the underlying cause. Blocked gutters, cracked pointing, damaged render, or a failed damp proof course must be dealt with by a builder or damp specialist. Dampstop Thermic + external fix is the complete solution.

Wallrock Thermal Liner or KV600. Both raise the surface temperature of the wall, eliminating the cold spot where condensation forms. The breathability of the liners also allows any residual moisture to pass through rather than being trapped. Combine with better ventilation for full effect. For north-facing rooms or older properties with badly-affected walls, KV600 is the better choice.

No. Rising damp - where groundwater rises up through the wall from below because the damp proof course is failing or missing - requires a proper damp proof course treatment by a specialist. Applying a wallcovering over rising damp will not solve it and may make it worse by trapping moisture in the wall. Get the damp diagnosed and treated first, then decorate.

Measure the height and length of each wall, multiply them together to get the square-metre area, and add up all the walls. Subtract the area of large doors and windows (small doors and windows are usually left in - the offcuts get wasted anyway). Then divide the total m² by the coverage of the roll you're buying. Always round up, and add an extra roll for waste, mistakes, and future repairs - for a typical room, 10% extra is a sensible margin.

Example: A 4m x 3m x 2.4m room = perimeter 14m x height 2.4m = 33.6 m² of wall. Minus 1 door (approx 2 m²) and 1 window (approx 1.5 m²) = ~30 m² net. Using Wallrock Fibreliner Original in a 55cm x 20m roll (11 m² coverage), you'd need 30 ÷ 11 = 2.7 rolls → order 3 rolls, or 4 to be safe.

Wallrock Fibreliner Original and Smooth: 55cm x 10m (5.5 m²), 55cm x 20m (11 m²), 75cm x 20m (15 m²), 100cm x 20m (20 m²).

Yes. A minimum of 10% extra is standard practice, more for pattern-matched wallpapers where offcuts can't be re-used. Extra rolls also mean you have matched batch material if a future repair is needed - reordering later often gets a slightly different batch that doesn't match perfectly.
